Power is defined as…
- Work done multiplied by time
- Force multiplied by distance
- The rate of doing work
Show the answer
The rate of doing work
Power = work done ÷ time taken, measured in watts (1 W = 1 J s⁻¹). Force × distance is the work itself.

A 1200 W motor runs for 5 minutes. Energy it uses?
- 240 J
- 360,000 J
- 6000 J
Show the answer
360,000 J
Energy = power × time, with time in seconds: 1200 × 300 = 360,000 J. 6000 uses 5 instead of 300 s; 240 divides instead of multiplying.

Work done by a force equals?
- Mass × acceleration in its direction
- Force ÷ time taken to move the distance
- Force × distance moved in its direction
Show the answer
Force × distance moved in its direction
W = Fs, measured in joules. 1 J is the work done when a force of 1 N moves its point of application 1 m.

Unit of power?
- Newton
- Watt
- Joule
Show the answer
Watt
Power is the rate of doing work: P = W ÷ t. 1 watt = 1 joule per second. The joule is the unit of work and energy.

The principle of conservation of energy says?
- Energy can't be created or destroyed, only converted
- Energy is always lost as heat whenever it changes
- Machines can create extra energy if they are efficient
Show the answer
Energy can't be created or destroyed, only converted
The total energy stays the same; it only changes form. Energy that seems lost has usually become heat or sound.
