Why make a model or prototype before the final product?

  1. So no design brief is needed at all
  2. So it can be sold at once
  3. To test and improve the design cheaply
Show the answer

To test and improve the design cheaply

A cheap card, foam or 3D-printed model shows problems early, e.g. a part that jams or a toy that tips over. Fixing them now costs far less than fixing the final product.
