Which lines in an isometric drawing can NOT be measured at true length?
- Vertical lines
- Lines along the 30° axes
- Sloping lines not on an axis
Show the answer
Sloping lines not on an axis
Only lines parallel to the three isometric axes are true length. Sloping (non-isometric) lines are found by plotting their end points along the axes, then joining them.

An object has a round hole in one face. Why make that face the front in an oblique drawing?
- The hole can then be left out of the view
- The hole stays a true circle
- The hole becomes an ellipse
Show the answer
The hole stays a true circle
The front face in oblique is true shape, so circles can be drawn with a compass. On a receding face they would distort into ellipses, which are harder to draw.
