A hole goes right through a block but is hidden in the elevation. How is it shown there?

  1. A circle with two centre lines
  2. Two thick lines with hatching
  3. Two dashed lines and a centre line
Show the answer

Two dashed lines and a centre line

Hidden edges are dashed, so each side of the hole becomes a dashed line, with a chain line for its axis. The circle appears in the view that looks into the hole.

Which size is shared by the elevation and the end view beside it?

  1. Depth
  2. Height
  3. Length
Show the answer

Height

Elevation and end view sit side by side and are projected across with horizontal lines, so every height matches. That is why they must line up level.

Orthographic projection, 3 marks

In orthographic projection, what is a 45° line used for?

  1. Carrying depths from plan to end view
  2. Finding the true length of an edge
  3. Setting out a chamfer on the plan view
Show the answer

Carrying depths from plan to end view

Depths in the plan are carried across to the 45° line and turned into the end view, so plan and end view match. Compass arcs can do the same job.
