Dividing a line into equal parts, 3 marks

A 120 mm line is divided in the ratio 2 : 3. How long is the shorter part?

2 + 3 = 5 equal steps, each 120 ÷ 5 = 24 mm. The shorter part is 2 steps: 2 × 24 = 48 mm. The longer part is 72 mm.

A 3×3×3 cube of 27 small cubes is painted outside. How many small cubes have 3 painted faces?
