In first-angle orthographic projection, where is the plan drawn?
- Above the front elevation
- To the left of the front elevation
- Below the front elevation
Show the answer
Below the front elevation
In first angle the plan goes below the elevation, and the end view seen from the left is drawn on the right. Third angle reverses these positions.

In a sectional view, how are the cut surfaces shown?
- Left blank, with only a thick outline around them
- Hatched with thin lines, usually at 45°
- Shown with short dashed (hidden) lines
Show the answer
Hatched with thin lines, usually at 45°
Hatching marks where the cutting plane passes through solid material. Parts next to each other are hatched in opposite directions so they can be told apart.

How are hidden edges shown on an orthographic drawing?
- Short dashed lines
- Chain lines of long and short dashes
- Thick continuous lines
Show the answer
Short dashed lines
Hidden detail uses thin short dashes. Chain lines show centre lines, and thick continuous lines show visible outlines.

An orthographic drawing shows an object…
- As one 3D view drawn at 30 degrees
- With its parts pulled apart along axes
- As separate 2D views, e.g. front and plan
Show the answer
As separate 2D views, e.g. front and plan
Orthographic projection gives flat views (elevation, end view, plan) with true shapes and sizes, which makes it ideal for dimensioned working drawings.

Shading a sketch so some faces are darker than others mainly…
- Hides the construction lines
- Makes it look three-dimensional
- Shows the object's dimensions
Show the answer
Makes it look three-dimensional
Tone shows how light falls on each surface. Faces turned away from the light are darker, which gives form and depth to a flat drawing.

In isometric drawing, horizontal edges are drawn at…
- 30 degrees to the horizontal
- 45 degrees to the horizontal
- 60 degrees to the horizontal
Show the answer
30 degrees to the horizontal
Isometric uses a vertical axis and two axes at 30 degrees, drawn with a 30/60 set square. Vertical edges stay vertical.
