How does opening a parachute slow down a skydiver?

  1. It switches off gravity
  2. It makes the skydiver lighter
  3. It increases air resistance
Show the answer

It increases air resistance

The large canopy pushes against much more air, so air resistance (drag) increases and balances gravity at a lower speed. The skydiver's weight does not change.

What is the weight of a 200 g apple on Earth? (take g = 10 N/kg)

  1. 2000 N
  2. 2 N
  3. 20 N
Show the answer

2 N

Change grams to kilograms first: 200 g = 0.2 kg. Weight = mass × g = 0.2 × 10 = 2 N. Using 200 instead of 0.2 gives 2000 N, a common error.
