Which instrument would measure the thickness of a coin most accurately?
- A metre stick
- A trundle wheel
- Callipers
Show the answer
Callipers
Callipers (vernier or digital) measure small lengths to a fraction of a millimetre. A metre stick only reads to 1 mm; a trundle wheel measures long distances outdoors.

A 150 g stone raises the water in a graduated cylinder from 50 cm³ to 80 cm³. What is its density?
- 1.9 g/cm³
- 5 g/cm³
- 3 g/cm³
Show the answer
5 g/cm³
Volume of stone = 80 - 50 = 30 cm³. Density = mass ÷ volume = 150 ÷ 30 = 5 g/cm³. Using 50 or 80 as the volume is a common mistake.
