What is the safe way to move hot steel from the forge to the quench tank?
- Pick it up quickly using a dry cloth
- Wait until it stops glowing, then lift by hand
- Use tongs and wear gloves and a face visor
Show the answer
Use tongs and wear gloves and a face visor
Steel that has stopped glowing can still be hot enough to burn badly. Use tongs, a leather apron, gloves and a visor, and lower it into the quench away from your face.
