Why does a home solar system often include a battery?

  1. To turn the panels to face the sun
  2. To change light straight into heat
  3. To store energy for use when it is dark
Show the answer

To store energy for use when it is dark

Solar panels only generate in daylight. A battery stores extra electricity as chemical energy to use in the evening, so less has to be bought from the grid.

Why is renewable energy better for the climate than burning fossil fuels?

  1. It works just as well in all weather
  2. It gives off little or no carbon dioxide
  3. It is always cheaper to install
Show the answer

It gives off little or no carbon dioxide

Burning coal, oil, gas and peat releases carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas that causes global warming. Wind, solar and hydro generate with almost no emissions and will not run out.
